Our Approach
We begin by listening. Then we help you climb.
Summit’s work begins with the belief that no two organizations are the same. A classical music festival is shaped by its place, its audience, its history, its artists and the particular feeling people carry with them when they leave the hall.
We do not bring a template. We bring judgment, relationships, candor and care.
Every engagement begins with a candid assessment.
We study your organization: its programming, artistic identity, leadership structure, audience, donor environment, opportunities and constraints. We listen to the people closest to the work and look carefully at where the institution truly stands.
The result is a clear artistic assessment and a practical roadmap for what comes next.
Step One: A Reading
From there, we help clarify the organization’s artistic direction.
What should this festival sound like? What should audiences feel? What belongs on this stage and what does not? What makes the organization distinct? What should be protected, and what should evolve?
These questions are not abstract. They shape programming, artist choices, donor strategy, board confidence and the long-term identity of the institution.
Step Two: A Shared Direction
Once the direction is clear, we help build the season.
We consider repertoire, artists, pairings, pacing, commissions, premieres, venues, audience experience and the multi-year arc. The goal is not only to create excellent concerts, but to create a season that feels led.
A strong season should have coherence. It should have surprise. It should feel inevitable once it exists.
Step Three: The Season Takes Shape
Our role does not end with a plan.
We stay engaged through the year, providing the presence and judgment of dedicated artistic leadership in the moments that matter: artist conversations, board discussions, donor opportunities, season announcements, in-season adjustments and difficult decisions.
We come as a pair, or with one of us leading and the other in support. Either way, the organization receives sustained attention from artists and leaders who are accountable for the work.
Step Four: Leadership Through the Year
What We Believe
The voice comes first.
Programs, budgets and galas serve the feeling in the hall. We protect that above all.
Excellence and intimacy are not a trade-off.
The finest organizations deliver both at once.
You are a place, not a template.
Nothing we make should feel interchangeable. If a season could be dropped into any other organization, we have failed.
We make your team stronger.
We do not compete with executive directors, staff or boards. Our job is to make them more powerful, never less.
We tell the truth.
Organizations do not need artistic partners who merely agree. They need candor, especially when the questions are difficult.
We say yes to very few.
We keep our roster small so the work stays personal, focused and excellent.
Summit is built for organizations that intend to last.
Our work is not only to help create a stronger season. It is to help an institution become clearer about what it is, more confident in where it is going and more capable of carrying that vision forward long after our engagement ends.
