Our Services

Summit Artistic Partners provides fractional artistic direction to classical music festivals, concert series, and presenting organizations.

Fractional artistic direction for classical music institutions.

Summit provides part-time artistic leadership for classical music festivals, concert series and presenting organizations. We work with boards, executive directors, founders and staff to shape artistic vision, design seasons, engage artists, support donor strategy and guide organizations through moments of transition or growth.

Our work is tailored to each institution. No two festivals have the same voice, audience, history or future.

Fractional Artistic Direction

For organizations that need senior artistic leadership without a full-time hire, Summit can serve as an ongoing artistic director on a part-time basis.

We help lead the artistic life of the organization across one or more seasons, including programming, artist selection, repertoire, season themes, board engagement, donor storytelling and long-term artistic planning.

This is best for organizations seeking sustained leadership, clear artistic identity and experienced judgment throughout the year.

Season Planning & Repertoire

A great season has architecture.

We help design the arc of individual programs, the through-line of a full season and the longer horizon of anniversaries, premieres, commissions and special projects worth planning years ahead.

Our goal is to create programming that is artistically serious, emotionally compelling and unmistakably connected to the organization’s identity.

Artist Identification, Booking & Negotiation

The right artists change everything.

Drawing on relationships built over decades of performance and artistic leadership, we help identify, court and contract musicians, ensembles, conductors, composers and collaborators suited to the organization, the hall, the audience and the artistic vision.

We do not simply recommend names. We bring judgment about fit.

Succession & Transition

Founder transitions and artistic leadership changes are among the most delicate moments in the life of a festival or series.

Handled well, they can also be the most creative.

Summit helps organizations protect their artistic voice while preparing for the future. We work with boards and leadership teams to clarify direction, support continuity, strengthen artist and donor confidence and guide the institution toward its next chapter.

Board, Governance & Donor Support

Artistic vision must be understood before it can be funded.

We help boards and development teams translate artistic plans into language donors can believe in, support and feel proud of. This may include board conversations, donor salons, campaign storytelling, artistic briefings or strategic guidance around major institutional moments.

Audience Development

Audience renewal is one of the central challenges facing classical music organizations.

We help organizations grow and renew the people in the seats without cheapening the work or diluting the artistic identity that made the institution matter in the first place.

The goal is not novelty for its own sake. The goal is vitality.

Organizational & Artistic Assessment

Every engagement begins with an honest look at where the organization stands.

Summit studies the institution’s artistic identity, programming, leadership structure, audience, donor context, opportunities and risks. We then provide a candid assessment and a clear roadmap for what comes next.

Some organizations begin and end with this assessment. Others continue into ongoing artistic direction.

Ways We Work

Assessment

A one-time review of the organization’s artistic position, opportunities and next steps.

Ongoing Fractional Artistic Direction

Part-time artistic leadership across one or more seasons.

Transition & Succession Support

Multi-year artistic leadership through founder succession, director transition or institutional reinvention.

Special Projects

Board retreats, donor salons, artistic searches, festival launches, anniversary seasons, composer initiatives, residencies or other major artistic projects.

Whether your organization is preparing for succession, clarifying its next season or imagining its next decade, Summit can help shape the path forward.

Engagement & Investment

Summit’s work begins with a one-time artistic assessment, typically ranging from $15,000 to $25,000. This gives the organization a candid read on its artistic position and a clear roadmap for what comes next.

For organizations that continue into ongoing fractional artistic direction, engagements are structured annually and scaled to the size, complexity and needs of the season. Special projects such as board retreats, donor salons and artistic searches are scoped separately.

Because Summit takes on only a small number of partners each year, every engagement begins with a conversation about fit.
